YES!

24 Jan

If you read my post from the other day you know the nightmare in the *LOVE kitchen  that took place. You can read about it here. It wasn’t a pretty sight.

After a long hard talk with myself after making 3 failed batches and having no clue why? (other than a hunch)

I went with my hunch and this is what I did with the three failed batches….

Since there were three layers I had to divide them and cut them into pieces. Then I added a bit of Distilled water (not too much) and placed into the microwave and melted them.

1

Then,

I started laying the layers back into the mold.

BOTTOM LAYER In!

2

MIDDLE LAYER In!

3

AND the TOP LAYER, In!

4

Then I insulated and left it there overnight. While I was biting my nails in the hopes it would turn out as expected.

AND LOOK!!!

5A

YES!!!!!!They came out fine! Now, it’s a  matter of time. I’ll check them periodically but they LOOK Great  🙂

Moral of the lesson: I NEED to get used to the feeling of the new hand blender!

Just in case you’re LOOKING for an answer right now for some other type of soaping problem Go and check out this Anne-Marie is a wealth of information!

Can you add herbs or rose petals to most or all soaps?

15 Mar

Flowers Floating in Herbal Tea

The answer to that question would be YES!

But, not the way you may be thinking. If you were to use Fresh Herbs or Flowers they could get moldy in the soap. (That’s not something you want to happen.)

So then the question becomes,

what types of herbs or rose petals can be used?

It’s best to use DRIED Herbs and Flowers. Depending on which dried herbs or flower you use will effect the outcome of the soap.

Here are some examples:

(If you have any questions feel to contact me, I love questions:) )

When using dried herbs keep in mind the soap can become scratchy!

1. Alkanet Root Powder – Herb (Will give the soap a light to deep purplish color depending on how much is used)

Usage : Add 1/2 tsp per pound of soap or make an infusion 1Tbsp per 4 oz. of oil to infuse (overnight to a week is best)

Then add 1 Tbsp. (strained) infusion to color to approximately 1.5 pounds of   soap.

Here’s a soap made with Alkanet root, It’s called Whimsical.

2. Annatto Seed Powder – pulp of a tropical fruit (Pale yellow to orange)

Usage: Add 1/2 tsp per pound of soap or make an infusion 1 to 2 Tbsp per 4 oz. of oil to infuse (overnight to a week is best or you could heat it up.)  Then add 1 Tbsp. or more (strained) infusion to color to approximately 1.5 pounds of   soap. The more you use the stronger the color. But, be sure not to use too much. It’s a fairly strong colorant.

3. Parsley Powder – (extremely pale green to green)

Usage: Add 1 tsp per pound of soap at trace. There is no need to infuse in oil.

4. Rose Buds – This one is simple. Just add a sprinkle to the top of the soap.
